Garth's back, A service project, And apples

So, Garth's back is really bad. He's had an MRI and his doctor told him he has disk degeneration. Healthy disks will show up white on and MRI and the first few disks just above his tail bone are black. Basically his injured disks have no lubrication and are right on the border of being herniated. Thankfully he doesn't need surgery, but he has a long way to go before his back will be healthy again. Because he cannot lift more than 30 lbs., he is no longer capable to do the projects we have going. Our Elder's Quorum approached Garth about using our deck as a service project because they were in need of an activity. Garth was hesitant because he felt that other people were in more need of service than us, (which is true) but he finally agreed. There was a great turn out and it was a lot of fun to spend a Saturday with our friends from the ward. It was especially funny to hear the other men get after Garth for trying to lift. Our camera battery was dead so I didn't get any pictures of the before, but here is what the deck looks like now. Thanks Elder's quorum!! The basic construction is finished and next spring we will sand and stain it.

Right after the service project Garth and I went to the church orchard in Caldwell and picked a whole car load of fuji apples. My sister-in-law Mylea was kind enough to show us how to get there and help pick the apples. We got there pretty late so we ended up picking in the dark and we didn't stop until our car was filled. Our car smells wonderful as we have not yet unloaded them into our kitchen.

How fun. Not Garth's back problems but the deck and the apples are fun news. Are you making applesauce? I wish I could have done some applesauce this year.
